Here are some sample tweets you can share to help get our campaign trending! We want the whole world watching how the Bay Area responds when confronted with its failure to house vulnerable people during a pandemic.

Housing for all homeless San Franciscans

Sample Tweet #1

Everybody is entitled to safe and secure housing, especially during a pandemic, yet @LondonBreed refuses to open hotel rooms or permanent housing to our most vulnerable neighbors! #housethebay #housingnotbarricades #ourcityourhome #PropC

Sample Tweet #2

#PropC money sits in a bank account untouched while @LondonBreed sends police to snatch tents and sweep homeless people from block to block. Unhoused people in the Tenderloin deserve better! #housingisahumanright #housingnotbarricades
Moratorium on Sweeps

Sample Tweet #3

Barricades in the Tenderloin are an extension of encampment sweeps. UCHastings chancellor David Faigman wants to “clear the streets” but offers no viable alternatives to homeless people fighting to survive. We demand a moratorium on sweeps! #stopthesweeps #housingnotbarricades

Sample Tweet #4

Despite a unanimous vote by @sfbos to open 8,250 hotel rooms to our unhoused neighbors @LondonBreed chooses to respond to homelessness by criminalizing poor people and clearing tents. We demand actual solutions for unhoused folks, not sweeps. #housingnotbarricades #stopthesweeps

Sample Tweet #5

#COVID19 is still spreading rapidly; these last few weeks have been the deadliest yet in California. Unhoused #tenderloin residents need tents to survive and shelter in place during this pandemic. Sweeps actively put us all at greater risk of infection. #housingnotbarricades

Abolish the Police

Sample Tweet #6

Policing was founded on anti-Blackness, and that legacy continues through the criminalization of poverty and homelessness and the violent policing of unhoused people. We need police out of our communities! #abolishthepolice #housingnotbarricades #housekeysnothandcuffs

Sample Tweet #7

People with disabilities are more likely to be unable to afford housing in San Francisco. Barricades, policing, and sweeps are not a solution, they are just further criminalization of Black, brown, and disabled homeless people. #HousingNotBarricacades is a disability issue!

Sample Facebook Post #1: Housing not barricades!

The Board of Supervisors approved a settlement with UC Hastings that puts homeless people in the crosshairs as the City plans to, in UC Hasting’s Chancellor David Faigman’s own words, “clear the streets”. This  lawsuit offers no viable housing or shelter to the thousands it seeks to displace, and instead mandates a police response to poverty in the City of San Francisco. Meanwhile, London Breed continues to ignore the legal mandates to open 8,250 hotel rooms and 4,000 housing units to homeless people in San Francisco. Unhoused people in the Tenderloin and around the City deserve better! #housingisahumanright #housingnotbarricades

Sample Facebook Post #2: Housing not barricades is a disability issue!

#HousingNotBarricades is a disability issue because half of homeless people in San Francisco have disabilities. People with disabilities are more likely to be low-income, often living on SSI, and unable to afford housing in San Francisco. Living without shelter, quality food, and healthcare causes and exacerbates many kinds of disabilities, including physical disabilities and mental health conditions.
UC Hastings is pitting housed and homeless people with disabilities against each other instead of seeking real solutions. Instead of barricades, provide affordable housing! House people in empty apartments and hotel rooms! Barricades, policing, and sweeps are not a solution, they are just further criminalization of Black, brown, and disabled homeless people.

Sample Facebook Post #3: Abolish the police!

Policing in America was founded on anti-Blackness, and that legacy continues through the criminalization of poverty and homelessness and through the violent policing of unhoused people in need. Mayor London Breed continues this legacy by underfunding the community services and housing resources necessary to meet the basic needs of poor people, and instead sending police to criminalize unhoused people for the ways they survive. Racist gentrification policies have pushed Black San Franciscans out of their homes, and now racist police are trying to push them off of the street, and often into jails. We need police out of our communities.

thank you!

Thank you for helping us #HouseTheBay.

Our City, Our Home promised to open 4,000 units to homeless San Franciscans, so stay tuned. There are still 3,999 vacant units waiting to be turned into housing. We will need your help!
